Patch Overview

Patch 199 combines targeted scroll-level balancing with a set of global combat-economy changes. Across the patch, the philosophy remains incremental: weak tools are being pushed closer to viability, efficient tools are being trimmed lightly, and element identity remains a priority in every adjustment.

Global changes

  1. Base mana increases from 140 to 200, and turn-one available mana rises from 140 to 180.
  2. Mana gained per turn decreases from 80 to 70 to offset the larger starting mana pool.
  3. Overflow coefficient changes from 200% to 150%, and drained coefficient returns from 30% to 25%.
  4. Second Burn cost changes from 20 to 10.
  5. Redraw cost changes from 30 to 10.
  6. Lethargy damage changes from 10 to 30.
  7. Surge base damage changes from 5 to 10.

Element highlights

  1. Sea receives a light buff overall. It has been the weakest-performing element in ranked on average, so the patch adds a few modest damage increases and mana reductions, especially on scrolls that have been severely underperforming.
  2. Dusk remains one of the stronger elements in the game, sitting around the low-50% range by ranked win rate. Its changes are deliberately small, with mild cost increases focused mainly on lifesteal efficiency.
  3. Dawn is in a stable place and therefore sees almost no movement, aside from a small adjustment to Now or Never.
  4. Forest remains one of the most difficult elements to balance. It underperforms in ranked while still being perceived as very strong in tournament settings, largely because of Rooted Resilience. This patch simplifies some of that bundled value so the effect remains distinct without carrying as much attached utility.
  5. Lava benefits strongly from the larger starting mana pool and also receives targeted improvements. Fireball is pushed more clearly into the large-damage role, while Lava Smelting and related changes give Lava better tools into defense-heavy matchups.
  6. Poison remains close to neutral overall, so it is left mostly untouched outside of a small adjustment to one low-performing scroll.
  7. Sky receives a few light nerfs, but also targeted support for low-use Aerial Assault tools.
  8. Spike remains one of the most balanced areas of the game, so only minor mana adjustments are being made.

Category highlights

  1. Attack scrolls receive a broader buff pass, with special emphasis on making Surge Point interactions more relevant and more rewarding to play.
  2. Defense scrolls are being re-centered, especially the Restore / Dispel / Detoxify package, which has posted extremely poor win rates and now receives significant cost reductions.
  3. Support scrolls see a similar pass aimed at raising the floor on forgotten tools rather than redefining the category.
  4. Weapon changes lean more heavily on community input. The largest highlights are the updates to the Magica-focused Energy Release and Whack!, the move to true damage on Ghost Shot and Rapid Fire, and a nerf to Fruit Vision.

General note

Overall, v199 is designed to raise the floor more than lower the ceiling. Because several of the global changes will likely create ripple effects across multiple archetypes, the patch will be monitored closely after release.
